Glenn B. Gastwirth, DPM is the Executive Director and CEO of the American Podiatric Medical Association. Dr. Gastwirth earned a bachelor of arts in zoology from The Ohio State University. He was a National Institutes of Health Pre-doctoral Fellow in Preventive Medicine at New York University School of Medicine prior to entering the New York College of Podiatric Medicine (NYCPM). He was chairman of the board of the American Podiatric Medical Students’ Association and president of the NYCPM student body. Gastwirth graduated magna cum laude and valedictorian from NYCPM in 1974, completed a surgical residency at Kern Hospital for Special Surgery in suburban Detroit, and practiced in Michigan until 1986.

Dr. Gastwirth is a Fellow of the American Society of Podiatric Surgeons. He is board-certified in Foot and Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.

Dr. Gastwirth has served in numerous leadership positions throughout his career, including president of the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association and delegate to the APMA House of Delegates.

Dr. Gastwirth joined APMA as director of scientific affairs in 1986 and was named deputy executive director for health policy and practice in 1992. Dr. Gastwirth has lectured to podiatric physicians and assistants throughout the nation on a wide variety of medical and surgical topics and health care-related subjects, including Medicare fee reform, resource based relative values, OSHA and CLIA compliance, coding, medical ethics, and health system reform. 

He and his wife Joy have a daughter, Sara; a son, Bradley; a daughter-in-law, Elyse; and a grandson, Reid.
